Mountain Marathon - Mustang - 15 Days

This exhilarating competitive run amidst the truly breathtaking landscape of the Transhimalaya/Upper Mustang region will thrill the fitness enthusiast and nature lover no end. As you race at altitudes ranging from 2,900 to 4,200 metres above sea level, you will pass by thriving barley fields, remote farming villages, monasteries steeped in tradition and amazing canyons set against a sensational alpine backdrop which includes some of the world’s tallest peaks including Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Following the yak-worn Mustang Trail deep within a wilderness zone of pure mystique, this 277-kilometre footrace is organized into eight manageable stages ranging from 30 to 40 kilometres in length and separated by checkpoints that include caves and age-old buildings rich in Tibetan Buddhist culture and spiritualism. This unique event takes place in April and features up to 40 runners.

British female endurance athlete, Lizzy Hawker, who participated in the inaugural marathon during 2012, has said of the Transhimalaya/Upper Mustang region that it is “a beautiful, open, wild landscape, an enclave of pure Tibetan Buddhist culture [with] an incredible air of mystery.” Hawker has described the race itself as “a very special experience in an incredible landscape.”
