Trek to Annapurna basecamp with us

On a short trek below an altitude of 4300 metres in one of the top ten trekking destinations in the world, you will be taken to a natural amphitheatre offering a 360-degree view of one of the longest and most beautify mountain ranges in the world, home to a multitude of mountains above 7000 metres in height, striking biodiversity and a rich local culture.

The Annapurna Himal (Range) is a vast massif of several peaks rising above 7,000 metres. Part of this magnificent range forms a natural amphitheatre known as the Annapurna Sanctuary. The Annapurna Himal is ringed by such awe-inspiring giants as Hiunchuli (6441m), Annapurna South (7219m), Annapurna I (8091m, the 10th highest in the world), Annapurna II (7939m), Gangapurna (7454m), Fang (7647m) and Annapurna III (7555m). The breathtaking sunrises over the snow-capped mountains together with the appearance of the ‘big tail’ (double summit) of ‘Mt. Fishtail’ (Machapuchare) are truly mind-blowing. Other highlights include the ever-changing landscape of deep subtropical valleys, rice fields, misty forests and tiny villages, incredible rhododendron and bamboo forests, beautiful jungle and, finally, high desert landscapes.

Along the trail, you will observe a mixed culture of different tribes/castes of people such as Brahmin, Chhetri, Gurungs and Magars. The Gurungs are the most prominent ethnic group in the area. The Gurungs are famed for their cultural performances and exemplary community living. The Gurung people native to the Annapurna Sanctuary are also renowned for their ongoing service as Gorkha soldiers in both the British Imperial and Indian armies, stretching back to the 1800s.

The difficulty level of this trek is moderate. We will be climbing steeply on the first couple of days, after which the trail will ease to a gradual ascent. This is a relatively short trek, terminating at a height of 4,200 metres. Thus, the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, also known as the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek (as we will be travelling in the mighty shadow of the beautiful Annapurna Himal) is suitable for beginners who are seeking to discover a spectacular natural world in a relatively short space of time with minimal risk of altitude-related problems.

The Annapurna Himal trekking area is handled with the assistance of the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation and the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP). The total area of ACAP is 7,629 square kilometres, encompassing forested middle mountains, high Himalayan peaks and trans-Himalayan desert plateau ecosystems.
