Trek to Tamang Heritage Trail with us

This fantastic dual package provides a special opportunity to combine an exhilarating alpine trek with an authentic hands-on experience of regional culture. This package offers you the unique chance to interact closely with a local Tamang family by way of a friendly homestay experience in the mountains during which you will be able to contribute to everyday life in a positive and meaningful way. Daily life for the Tamang people progresses in much the same way as it has for the last several hundred years, with farming being the main activity, and your stay will prove to be a truly absorbing experience.

The trail will take us to the leafy, unspoiled midlands of Nepal, allowing us to experience the sheer beauty of this mountainous region as we sample the intriguing culture of the people who live there. As we proceed along the trail we will pass through traditional Tamang villages where daily routines, cultural practices and crafts have remained unchanged since settlement centuries ago. A warm traditional welcome hosted by the locals, elaborate Tamang costumes, the rich architecture of local dwellings, age-old monasteries and traditional places of prayer add colour to one’s experience of this trail.

The trail itself does not disappoint, offering a plethora of pleasurable natural experiences. In addition to an authentic and unrivalled cultural experience, the trek also offers a unique wilderness experience exposing you to beautiful landscapes of alpine terrain, picturesque meadows and delightful rhododendron forests. The unique landscape around Golijung Bhanjyang, Thuman village and Brimdang, the pristine forest between the Tatopani-Nagathali hilltop and Thuman, and the panoramic view of the Langtang Mountains, the Sanjen Ranges, Ganesh Himal, Kerung and the Gosaikunda Range along the way together make for a wonderfully wholesome Himalayan adventure.

Sustainablity

The Tamang Heritage Trail was established in 2005 to attract tourists to the Tamang-populated region adjacent to the Langtang National Park as part of a strategy to alleviate rural poverty in the area. Accommodation along the trail is provided through friendly homestays and in comfortable community lodges located in traditional villages. This trek really does offer a unique opportunity to experience the culture of the Tamang people right up close and to contribute to daily life in a truly positive way. Homestays are a great way to meet and interact with the locals and to gain an insight into their traditional way of life. During the trek, you will spend a couple of evenings relaxing in a homestay environment set in a beautiful medieval village, with warm native hospitality provided by a local Tamang family. This experience truly offers a rare peek into the fascinating Himalayan lifestyle and culture like no other.

Our Services

Pre-departure

At the time of booking, we will provide you with a comprehensive trip note covering things like the difficulty level/expected fitness level, health and training tips for effective trek preparation and important safety information.

We will also organise a free pre-departure information session for groups which covers all important aspects of the journey and provides a forum for answering all of your questions.

In Kathmandu

In Kathmandu, a licenced tour guide will take you on a heritage sightseeing tour of ancient monasteries, temples, monuments and buildings. Drawing upon extensive local knowledge, the guide will take you through the side streets and alleyways where you will be able to see local and indigenous people up close, going about their day-to-day lives. This unique tour will literally make you feel like you are travelling back in time!

In the evening on the day of arrival, when the tour guide meets and greets you, he will facilitate a group dinner if there is an interest among the travellers. On the final evening, a group dinner will be organised at a Nepali restaurant for your traditional culinary experience in Kathmandu.

On The Trek

On your unforgettable trek, you will receive continual support from a highly experienced crew, which includes a licenced and seasoned English-speaking trekking guide, porter and Sherpa (for large groups). The trekking guide has first aid along with other relevant training, and understands high altitude sickness and its management.

All our guides are friendly and caring. They will go beyond the call of duty to ensure your continual safety and comfort. For example, they will check (where possible) with the lodge owners to ensure that your rooms throughout the trek are well set. They will advise you on how to stay hygienic on the trek and will help you with meal selection. If the crew is aware that someone in the group has a birthday, they may surprise everyone by organising (where possible) a birthday cake.

With us, all you will need to carry is a day pack to store your personal items (e.g. hat, sunscreen, chocolate and energy bars, etc).  The rest will be carried by a porter. All accommodation will be organized by us in advance. Meals are covered for the duration of trek. Your guide will help you to place meal orders at the lodges and will ensure that you are looked after. All you will need do each evening is kick back and relax at the lodges so that you will have a fresh start the next day.

So, get ready for a wondrous Himalayan journey which has been nothing short of a life-changing experience for so many.
